Math and Music

Probably the closest connection between Music and Math is that they both are indicative of patterns. For eg., fractions are used in music to indicate the lengths of notes. Rhythms too have a pattern, as do melodies and scales.

Fractions can be difficult to learn and comprehend. Music integration, however, helped the students to understand and learn the concept faster and easier. The students, therefore, explored different elements of music in terms of whole, half, quarter and eighth notes and created simple compositions using these notes. They also filled in a bar of music with different fractional values and clapped as per the bar divisions.
